The Scion AV All-Purpose Show welcomes guests Joey Bada$$, Powers Pleasant, and Keith Ape for its newest episode. Of course, our hosts Prince Paul and his son DJ PForREAL are there to keep the proceeding going. This edition also features an appearance from Oscar-nominated actor James Franco. That’s some serious star power.
Starting things off, Powers Pleasant, one of the co-founders of Brooklyn’s Pro Era family, enters the studio wearing a shirt memorializing the late Capital Steez. Pleasant is a talented producer and he explains how he got interested in playing instruments, rather than just staring at computer screens all day. He then goes on to detail how live instrumentation differentiates him as a producer. You can hear it on the recently released Scion AV Presents: The Powers Pleasant Experience EP.
Next, Prince Paul leaves the studio to catch up with James Franco on the set of the commercial he recently shot for the forthcoming Scion iM and Scion iA. Franco discusses with Paul how he’s been able to take the perceptions that some have of him and use them to fuel his own unpredictable approach to celebrity.
Back inside, Keith Ape shows up, all the way from South Korea. Ape has made a name for himself as a respected rapper and here he explains how after a successful run at SXSW he was able to put together a remix of his hit “IT G MA” featuring A$AP Ferg, Wacka Flacka Flame, Father, and Dumbfounded. He also breaks down for Paul and PForReal what exactly “IT G MA” means. Hear Ape on the EP that chef/writer/TV personality Eddie Huang curated for Scion AV called Shellfish or Better.
Finally, the super smooth Joey Bada$$ glides through to talk about what he’s going on. He explains to Paul, an architect of 1990s hip-hop, how that sound became embedded in his totally modern music. He also talks about the two short films he stars in highlighting the standard features of the Scion iM and the Scion iA. Take it all in.
